MATCH DAY

The day at Jacksonville Golf & Country started out cold and pretty much stayed that way all day.  The high winds didn't help the scores either.  What ever the cause, the home team advantage was nowhere to be found and the defending champions gave us all a breath of hope for the coming season.

The course was in great shape and the greens were extremely fast.  The food was good and the scorecards and scoreboards were perfect.

SCORING

Thanks for the after-match scoring help. Those who helped were Roy Gulick (MP), Larry Von Dolteren (SN), Mark Good (DC), John Pujol (QH), Skip Lunsford (JG), Rod Fullerton (JG), Rick Cottey (JG) and Bob Curry (JG)

MATCH WINNERS:

San Jose took first place with a score of 241 and became the first team in our history to win 1st place spot with only seven players.  Yes, they were a man short so they couldn't throw out their lowest number.  Great job!  SN was led by 39 points from Bill Basney and 38 points from  Tom Donovan.

Sawgrass was second place with a score of 240.  SG was led by Mark Sur's 41 point performance and another 38 points from Tom Craft.

Third place was taken by Magnolia Point with a score of 235.  They were led by 40 points from Van Johnson and 36 points from both Gary Hoagland and Ed McLanahan.

Eagle Harbor, with a score of 233 was fourth.  EH was led by
39 points from Jim Wood and 36 from Maury Kuban.

SCORECARDS

Everyone turned in a scorecard after the match. Most of the scorecards were filled in perfectly and were very legible.

There were a few 'X's  and dashes on a couple of cards.  We need to watch that and remember to NEVER stroke control a score.  If a player holes out give him what he took, even if it is ridiculously high.  If a player does not hole out, give him a zero (0)!  Our computers do all the stroke controlling.  If you do it, a player may get points where he doesn't deserve any.

SCORING:

We made absolutely no errors at the scoring table this month!

One thing YOU can do to help us is to check your score as we post it on the scoreboard.  If you suspect something is wrong, please report it to us.  We are always more than happy to 're-input' cards through our system.  If you notice an error and don't report it, it is just as dishonest as cheating on the course.  Remember, what goes around, comes around.

Another thing you can do is to make sure that your card is clear and legible.  Make sure it is signed by yourself and the scorekeeper.  Also, help us by being quiet around the scoring table.

SUBMIT AN ARTICLE

Articles of interest to MSIS members are accepted and will be published here.  Just email your article to me.  You must sign it.

I am sure that you all see or hear things at our matches that would be of interest to us all.  Funny stories about things that happen on the course.  They don't have to be the absolute truth!  Brag about a great hole you played or a great shot you hit.  Here again, you may stretch the truth.  Write them up and send them to me.  It would make this a much more interesting publication.  Please help out.  Surely someone out there has an opinion or suggestion for the Interclub.
