MATCH DAY

The day at CC of Orange Park started out cool but it warmed up quickly and turned out to be a great day.  The home team advantage was missing for the second month in a row.  That 'Team up North', Osprey Cove, showed that they are still a force to be reckoned with.

The course was in good shape for this time of year.  The food was good and the scorecards and scoreboards were as we like them.

We had two last minute roster changes, the worst kind, and that gave us a few problems with the post-match scoring.  Other than that, a  good day.

SCORING

Thanks for all the help at CC of Orange Park.  Those who helped were Roy Gulick (MP)Larry Von Dolteren (SN)Mark Good (DC)John Pujol (QH)Glenn Dobrick (SG), Gary Hill (OP)Bob Hubbard (OP)Frank Knafelc (OP) and Gregg Wagner (OP).

MATCH WINNERS:

Osprey Cove took first place with a score of 272.  Great job!  OC was led by 47 points from Team Rep, Tony DeMarco and 41 points from Ed Arroyo.

Here is how Tony DeMarco describes his 47 point performance: "

I had a charmed round Monday. Hit 3 drives into the woods. They all bounced back out into play. A tree saved me from the water on one par 3. I skipped one across the water to edge of green on another par 3. Practically chipped in about 6 times.
A magical round.

Eagle Harbor was second place with a score of 262.  EH was led by Mike Lamphier's 43 point performance and another 39 points from Jim Wood.

Third place was taken by Deercreek with a score of 259.  They were led by 42 points from both Mark Good and Paul Rothstein.

Mark Good's round was helped along by a wild 15th hole, a par 5.  Mark hit his tee shot so far right it landed on a roof top.  So after the stroke and distance penalty, Mark was hitting 3 from the tee.  Following a good tee shot he hit a 5 metal from the fairway to ten feet from the hole.  Mark rolled in putt for a routine par.  That par on 15 helped Mark get eight straight pars after a double bogey on #10.

Sawgrass, with a score of 256 was fourth.  SG was led by 40 points from Team Rep Glenn Dobrick and 39 points from Bill Swerbenski.  SG took 4th place by beating out Jacksonville G&CC and Hidden Hills in a scorecard tie-breaker.

SCORECARDS

Everyone turned in a scorecard after the match. Most of the scorecards were filled in perfectly and were very legible.

Several of the scorecards had other numbers in the score box.  That can cause confusion at the scoring table.  Please put nothing in that box except one number.  That number must be the gross score for the hole or a zero!

We need to remember to NEVER stroke control a score.  If a player holes out give him what he took, even if it is ridiculously high.  If a player does not hole out, give him a zero (0)!  Our computers do all the stroke controlling.  If you do it, a player may get points where he doesn't deserve any.

SCORING:

We made a few errors at the scoring table this month! None of them caused any problems with the outcome.  We are working on correcting the root causes of the errors.  All scores have been adjusted and the results shown on this web site are official and final.

One thing YOU can do to help us is to check your score as we post it on the scoreboard.  If you suspect something is wrong, please report it to us.  We are always more than happy to 're-input' cards through our system.  If you notice an error and don't report it, it is just as dishonest as cheating on the course.  Remember, what goes around, comes around.

Another thing you can do is to make sure that your card is clear and legible.  Make sure it is signed by yourself and the scorekeeper.  Also, help us by being quiet around the scoring table.

WEB SITE

We have added a New Player information page.  Look it over, even experience players may learn something.

A page has been added which shows a typical scheduling agreement that serves as a contract between us and hosts clubs.

Speed-of-play ideas have been added.  Those may be viewed here and here.

All players should sign up for MSIS emails.  There is a sign-up form near the bottom of the home page at www.jaxsi.org with electronic submittal....... very easy.

There is lots of information on this web site.  Many of your questions are answered on the site.  Please look it over.

We have two local sponsors of these web pages.  The ad for First City Companies on the home page and also have a look at Jock Ochiltree's ad on the February results page.  Jock is one of our continuing web page sponsors.  He has added a new feature to his ad.  Each month he is going to provide statistics and feature a house on the market in the community located near our  tournament site.  Check it out.  Just click on his ad where it says "Click here”.

Remember, keeping our sponsors happy adds money to our prize fund.  Keep Jock happy by looking at his featured home.  This month's homes are great buys!

Also click on the Google ads every chance you get!

SUBMIT AN ARTICLE

Articles of interest to MSIS members are accepted and will be published here.  Just email your article to me.  You must sign it.

I am sure that you all see or hear things at our matches that would be of interest to us all.  Funny stories about things that happen on the course.  They don't have to be the absolute truth!  Brag about a great hole you played or a great shot you hit.  Here again, you may stretch the truth.  Write them up and send them to me.  It would make this a much more interesting publication.  Please help out.  Surely someone out there has an opinion or suggestion for the Interclub.

The contributions this month from Tony DeMarco and Mark Good are greatly appreciated.
